Scrabble scoring help

Posted: Oct 24, 2009

Okay, I played Scrabble with husband and son last night and need help to figure out who won, as our rule book is missing from the box.

Hubby went first, then me, then my son.

At the game's end, with no tiles left to draw, hubby was able to use all his tiles.  His score was 151.

Next it was my turn and I was able to use my remaining tiles for 5 more points.  (Previous to this, I had 2 tiles left, a U and and R and my score was 154.) If this turn counts, my score was 159.

My son was not able to use his final letter, which was a Q.

My husband thought he won because he went out first, and that he gets my 2 points for U and R plus my son's 10 for Q, giving hiim a final score of 163 and my score 154.  That doesn't seem fair because that means he got an extra turn.

It seems to me that even if he gets the extra turn, I should just subtract 2 and my son subtract 10, which would mean that I won and the final score was 151 to 152 (and son's 92).  I think that is how we played growing up.

Can somebody tell me WHO WON?

Thanks very much!

Sorry, I think your husband won. The rules say: - sm

When one player has used all his letters and the pool is empty, the game is at an end. No more plays may be made.

But was he supposed to get my 2 points and my son's 10? - annabanana

Or are we supposed to subtract our remaining tile points from our score?

Unless he gets our points, I still won.

I'm really not being a sore loser. I actually always expect him to win because he pretty much always wins at Scrabble. It just seemed like we should all get the same amount of turns.

Your husband gets the count from your tiles and your son's tiles. He was correct. He won, you lost. Sorry! I love playing Scrabble but I NEVER win!
