New Zealand

Posted: Aug 25, 2010

I just enjoyed some very much needed time off and so decided to treat the family to a trip to New Zealand. And what a trip...

If there is a place to truly relax, it has got to be New Zealand. We toured the North Island and it was amazing. We visited Auckland, Rotorua, New Plymouth and Taupo. Our main stay was in Wellington. The people, food, smells, sights, and pace of life is truly beautiful.

Although the flight is VERY long, you simply forget all about it once you spend time in New Zealand.

How about you? Have you ever experienced the bliss of New Zealand? Or what was your favorite destination?

Apparently, you are making more than 8 cents a line or you have a husband who earns a nice salary with benefits, but you are definitely not a single mother with children.

jealous much!? - happy for you OP

Why does this reply have to have such a negative tone? You don't know what the OPs situation is. Maybe she was smart and began saving at a young age. Maybe they come from a family who has some money. It doesn't matter. The OP just stated that her family was fortunate enough to take a nice trip and was looking for someone to share the experience with! Jeeessh! OP, I'm glad you had a wonderful trip, I've never been but some day I would love to. I haven't been on a trip for about 10 years, but am finally about to head to Vegas in October. It's not NZ, but it will be nice to get away!

This reply was totally unecessary - see message (and message for OP too)

This post was just ugly. Is that what life is about? You can't be happy for somebody else? You sound very bitter, and this post sounds like a jealous post from a child. So what if you can't go to New Zealand or someplace exotic or far away. You can still be happy for others who can. The OP was commenting on a beautiful place she went to. It's nobody's business how she paid for the trip or the purpose of the trip, or how many cents per line or how many children she has. She didn't brag, just posted about what a beautiful and relaxing place New Zealand is.

To the OP - I'm very glad you had a great trip. One day hope I will be able to go there. It sounds wonderful. My SIL is from Australia and I've seen pictures of how beautiful that area of the world is.

Here's a hint for those who can't go. If you go to Google maps, type in New Zealand and pull up a map of New Zealand you can drag that little orange man in the top left corner of the screen (the one standing over the bar where you can zoom in and out) right click and drag him down to the map and you can walk around the island.

To the OP again, I'm glad you had a nice trip. There are people on this board who are happy for you that you had a great time. Not all of us are 12.

How interesting with the little orange man - lindawordlady

I tried what you suggested and sometimes lost the orange man. I tried right clicking and it did nothing, but could see some spots by left clicking. Hard to figure out but what I did see was beautiful and fascinating. Think I will try google maps on some other sites as well. Thanks for that great tip.

On a side note, a friend of mine has been to New Zealand a couple of times at the invitation of a couple that live there, which he met while on another trip a few years ago to Boston. They began a conversation and became great friends!!
That's because...... - Heide (see message)

I wrote the message you replied to (I just didn't feel like writing the same name on the name line). I think the reason you lose the little man sometimes is because not all places have been mapped out yet. If when you drag him to places on the map and the map has blue lines, those are the places you can explore. I love that I can explore Norway and Denmark but sad I can't get all of Europe to places I've been. I'm hoping one day they'll have it mapped. I've also been to Salzurg Austria and Switzerland. In Austria all I see are dots, so those are still photographs, but Switzerland....oh mama why was I not born in Switzerland. That country is sooooooo beautiful. I also go back and visit my home town I grew up in and so many other places I can go visit.

There are so many beautiful places in the world and nice that I can walk down the streets of Denmark or Maine or Canada or Switzerland.

Oh, just in case you haven't noticed this yet, when your in the map you can hold down your mouse and drag it to the left and right on the screen and it changes the direction of the man, and if you double click on the arrow on the road it advances you.

Bitter, party of 1, your table is ready. - Happy MT Robin

OP, glad you had a great time. I've never been to that part of the world, but I've been fortunate enough to travel to Europe and loved the whole experience. Those are memories you will cherish forever.

Maybe she's really good with her money - and puts everything on an airline card

and pays it off at the end of the month and accumulates mad frequent flier miles.

A woman I worked with did that and paid for her daughter's airline ticket to Ghana to go to school.

Don't be hatin'

Sounds like you had a great trip! - mtmtmt

I've seen pictures on travel shows, but I've never been. Don't pay attention to the meany who posted.

Never been, but my future daughter-in-law has. - She loved it.

She continues to talk about how wonderful NZ is. I'm a hiker/backpacker, and would love to go there to walk. I just got back from a trip to Yosemite and that that was amazing. Hopefully, next year I'll return to hike the 215 miles of the John Muir trail.

I've been to, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Asia, Europe, Japan and to several US states. My favorite place were the little villages outside of Frankfort, Germany. So quaint, so old fashioned, like we stepped back in time. So clean and beautiful and great food and friendly people. I loved the weather too, we went in the fall and it was crisp and cool. We traveled a bit and went to the Black Forest. I saw the REAL Frankenstein castle! It was awesome.

I've never been to New Zealand, but it's on my gotta see list. I'm glad you had a good time. I love traveling.
