Liquid Foundation

Posted: Jun 30, 2010

I want a liquid foundation. But not sure what to use. What I was using has been discontinued...hate when that happens.

I am 55 so something that is good for aging skin. I hate when you can tell that someone is wearing foundation. I like something that looks natural but gives u a nice smoothness and some color. My skin tends to be a little dry if that helps.

I know that I will get some great advise for you all.

You sound like you have the same skin as I do. I am also 55. I wear clinque. I have for about 25 years. It does cover naturally and it is hypoallergenic.

It is pretty much a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen (which I love), so it evens out my skin tone without looking like foundation because I don't like to wear a lot of makeup. Also, since I am outside a lot and live in the humid south, it doesn't streak as it melts off of my face, like some liquid makeups do.

I am 56 and have been using Avon Anew products for probably as long as they have been around. They have foundation too.

I DO not have the usual tell-tail signs that women our age usually do and I attribute it to diet, water intake and Anew products. My mother is 77 and uses the products as well. She looks 10 years younger than her age. She is incredibly beautiful.

Find a rep and get some trial samples. I think you'll be impressed at the results for the price.

NO, I am not a rep. Just a devoted user.

I have to agree about Avon Anew products. I am 35 and have been using them for years. I use the liquid foundation and the day/night moisturizers, and my skin has never looked better! I only have to use a few drops of the liquid foundation to cover my face, and therefore a bottle lasts me a long, long time.

And nope, not a representative here either, just a very devoted user!!

not a foundation but - sm

My mom is 55 and I bought her a package of the Olay Regenerist cream. She has lived her life outdoors, not wearing sunscreen, and had a lot of age spots and wrinkles from smoking. She specifically asked me to buy it for her (I'm not that insensitive) because it was too expensive for her. You would not belive how well it did! The age spots nearly disappeared, her wrinkles tightned, she had color in her face, it looked dewy and soft and great. I know you were asking about foundation, but sometimes a good night cream makes foundation unnecessary. She even used it on her hands.

Good luck!

I don't use it myself but... - MakeupAddict

I've heard that new line of Cover Girl combined with Olay that Ellen DeGeneres promotes is supposed to be fabulous for mature skin in that it has a moisturizer consistency and doesn't sink into fine lines or wrinkles and has sunscreen, etc., in it. They even have creme blushes blended with Olay. If you like Olay, you might like these products.

I'm a mineral makeup gal myself, but sometimes with dry skin the mineral makeup can be a bit tricky and if it isn't set right, oh boy...It'll settle into lines you didn't even know existed. I've been thinking about trying the new Revlon Photo-Finish foundation which is getting some pretty decent reviews (similar to the Smashbox foundation but quite a bit cheaper).

Good luck...finding the perfect foundation can be a real challenge!

This is one of my favorite subjects! I'm glad you asked.

No matter what foundation you select, it will be improved by a primer. Some are just creepy silicone goo, but I swear by M.A.C. Prep and Prime Skin Base Visage. You'll need less foundation because it goes on more smoothly, and the primer fills in crevices and smooths everything out. Smashbox has one that is ok, but M.A.C.'s is spectacular.

If you take your old makeup (so they can see what you like) to a large department store cosmetics department and visit the M.A.C., Clinique, and Lancome counters, I think you will find a foundation you like from at least one of them. All three have good choices at reasonable cost, all things considered. You'll also end up with a color that suits you. The makeup might cost a bit more, but it will probably last longer and perform better.

Personally, I swear by M.A.C. products. No one thinks I wear makeup, because it's not immediately obvious, until I'm not wearing it. You don't want people to see your foundation, and with a correctly selected, high-end brand you won't see it.

I like everything M.A.C. makes, from the skin care to the primer to the liquid foundation to the mascara. You hardly have to use any product to get appropriate color from the blush and eye shadow, so nobody "sees" the makeup sitting on your face--they just see color. Everything just works well. The eyeshadows, eyeliners, lipliners, lipsticks come in a good variety of non-glittery, non-shiny neutral colors. Both are long-lasting and very nice. Even their makeup remover towelettes are excellent. Best of all, they have a recycling program so that you get a free lipstick when you return 6 empty product containers.

Just within the last eight months I have swapped from liquid foundation (sm) - anon

to Bare Minerals and I have never been happier with my makeup. It is a powder applied with a brush, it is super easy to apply and WOW, it is so light that I honestly forget that I am wearing it. It is the most natural looking makeup that I have ever worn. I am 44 and have horrible dark circles under my eyes and the coverage is even better than my liquid foundation was. Before I was wearing cover stick for blotches and the dark circles, then the liquid foundation, then a light powder over it for shine control, my blush and mascara. Now I simply apply my powder, a little blush and my mascara.

The other great thing about it is, I was experiencing "break outs" just as I did as a teenager and the Bare Minerals has helped to really clear my skin up. It is not cheap but also not the most expensive and if used correctly it will last you a long time. If you get it make sure that you watch the DVD that comes with it that shows you how to apply it.

So sorry this is so long, as you can tell I am really pleased with my makeup now and I could not say that in the past.

Good luck!!!

Love Bare Minerals too! - Hayseed

As someone with not only adult acne, but also scarring and sun blotches, and both dry flaky skin AND oily skin (my skin is a total trainwreck from all sorts of abuse) that liquid foundation will just slide off from, this stuff has been a miracle makeup for me.

It doesn't sting, it doesn't slide off, it doesn't cake up--it's just perfect, for up to 8 hours a day in all weather conditions. I get mine through QVC on line and started with a sampler to find out which shade was best for me. I can't recommend this stuff enough. I tried a similar "mineral makeup" from Maybelline and it's not even close.

Good luck in your search and have fun with it! :-)

I used that but have now switched over to - sk

Mary Kay's similar product. It is less expensive and works just as well. I would never go back to a liquid foundation again.

bare minerals must not work for everyone - unfortunately

[ In Reply To ..]
I always hear great things... but I don't think it gives me enough coverage... liquid foundation for me evens out my skin tone. I don't have horrible skin but bare minerals didn't seem to give me any coverage at all! I really like not thick foundation, and the only kind I have found lately is Maybelline Pure makeup... it is 50% water so it is not thick at all... feels like a tinted lotion more to me. I think it is an ageless thing too? I dunno... I'm 29 and I like it.

My mom who is 52 wears bare minerals though and likes it too.

BM is good but I prefer DASH Minerals - GlamMT

[ In Reply To ..]
Their foundation seems to blend more easily, have a little more coverage, and their finishing power has a sheen rather than the glittery look of BM. Also, I've noticed it doesn't tend to splotch and get those white streaks if you perspire a bit.

But pretty much I love ALL makeup. And I have the totally full bathroom drawers to prove it (yes, I am embarassed at just how many products I have stashed in the bathroom...even my husband fears opening my drawers, lol!).
