Good night, David Letterman

I just finished watching Dave's last show about an hour ago. Very much a night owl, I started watching him back in 1982 when he was on NBC at 12:30 am. I was 20 years old. After my then-boyfriend (we've now been married for 32 years) fell asleep, I would watch Dave. His show was a familiar, dependable presence in the quiet hours before sleep when I just needed to wind down. His irreverence, silliness, and anti-show show was a lot of fun for me. I loved it so much that I crossed the Hudson from NJ to NY several times to go see the show in person after he moved to CBS. It almost doesn't seem possible, but Broadway was actually more alive with Dave's show taking up residence at the Ed Sullivan Theater for the last 22 years. I'm going to miss him. ;
