Blueberries - Is there anything that can be done

Posted: Jun 25, 2016

My husband brought home 5 pounds of fresh blueberries the other day.  What heaven!  They were firm and sweet.  Ate some and froze the rest to eat later.  Today took some out of the freezer, but now thawed they are soft and mooshy and not appetizing to eat just plain.

Is there any way to get the blueberries firm again once thawed.  I see lots of smoothies to be made, but I'm so disappointed they are not firm to eat out of a bowl anymore.

When you froze, you burst the cell walls that kept all the juice in, which made them firm.

I freeze them all the time. Throw a handful still frozen in oatmeal after you cook it. I also make french toast and push the frozen berries into the toast while the first side is browning. Then when you flip, it cooks them and its so delicious. Also use in pancake batter and cake mixes.

better bake them immediately, haha. I'll take a scoop with ice cream atop.

or blueberry smoothies and muffins, not a bad compromise.

Blueberry syrup; great on pancakes. -nm- - Me

Any fruit or veggie put in freezer will thaw mushy. The more water in it, - the mushier it will be. nm

I would grin and bear it, and try some ideas here.

My personal idea would be to swirl it around in plain or vanilla-flavored yogurt and call it a day unless you want to spend time baking.

But this year – city officials told the devout Catholic family that their blueberries and sweet corn were not welcome at the farmer’s market – and neither were they. Last year, someone posted a message on Country Mill’s Facebook pag ...
