OP - reread it and try it again. It works every time for me. - Another example.

start with 10

double 10 and get 20

add 15 (as the number you choose to add) to that 20 and get 35

divide 35 by 2 and get 17.5

subtract the 10 that you started with from 17.5 and get 7.5

7.5 is half of the added 15

It works with even or odd numbers.
