for a USDA food producer. Each and every serving goes through a metal detector prior to packaging and the packaging does not (or should not) contain or be constructed of any metal. So the only way metal shavings get into the product is due to malfeasance after inspection by QC/QA unless QC/QA is in on it.
Who is the contractor supplying this garbage and who is the politician they are linked to? Those are some of the likely relevant questions.
Most military groups have their own field kitchens. This sounds like a contract made in the wildest dreams of some democrat caterer. Remember Acorn? They are still around but just have a different name. They agitate for these contracts.
Questions that will never be asked and certainly not ever answered.
