I don't think they suppressed the news. I know our local paper didn't. Every day they would publish a list of people who were hospitalized or died from the Spanish flu. It was so bad, they ran out of morgues and funeral homes to for them. A casket company started in the area and they worked 24/7 to keep up and they did a fine business for 100 years, closing because cremation is now #1 because of high costs of funerals.
