9/11. While most other charities were spending their effort raising money, donations etc. (worse was the Red Cross), the Salvation Army was directing most of its efforts getting goods and services directly to where it was needed.

Someone rated charities according to how much they took for themselves. The Salvation Army takes less than any other. The Sierra Club took almost all, no wildlife benefitted from “Club Sierra.”

I support Union Gospel Mission, a local organization. Gave them my very old car, send them a little money every year for Thanksgiving Dinners for street people, including mothers with children. They take people in, house them, feed them, teach job skills, and of course tell them about Jesus. An outstanding organization.
