It was, in fact, a 7 to 2 decision, with the 7 being Democrats and/or appointed by Democrat presidents, and the two being Whigs. One of the Whigs later resigned from the Court in disgust at the decision. The Whigs were disgusted also at Dem (Andrew Jackson) treatment of Native Americans.
