denounce its racist past. I don't think they have a "racist past." They've always been racists and still are. That party was founded to defend slavery. When slavery went bust they found other ways to perpetuate their bigotry.
It's not so long ago that they fought tooth and nail against voting/civil rights acts. They're still at it, blaming blacks' or other minorities' problems on melanin. They're disgusting.
