A common misconception is we have all the info there is to see. We don't. The campaign has internal polling. They also dig into the polls the media twists and see what's actually going on.
One thing they'd look at is special elections from earlier this year. Democrats lost three of them in California, Wisconsin, and New York. California hasn't switched a district like that in over 10 years.
The media would have you believe Trump is losing to a "guy in the basement." The Biden campaign knows he'll have to come out of the basement at some point. The problem is when Biden does come out it makes everyone wonder if he's lost it completely or if he's just temporarily confused.
It's not hard to imagine Trump destroying Biden in the debates. It makes me wonder if Biden will bow out and let his VP run in his place.
