Norwegians do pay high taxes - sm

but they also realize there is no such thing as a free lunch. They pay high taxes to get those benefits for themselves and for society at large, with an eye toward a return on their investment by making their society better for everyone, paying it forward so to speak to have a productive society. They also watch their elected officials carefully to make sure their taxes are spent properly. I honestly thinks this sounds pretty nice, but have no faith in a good portion of our society/citizens to place value on the things provided to them and using these benefits wisely with the goal of making their lives, and consequently the lives of others, better. And I have zero confidence in our government to use our funds properly; we would have to watch them like a hawk. It would be a full-time job. Sad to say.
