Having an unspecified autoimmune disorder myself, my rheumatologist monitors my kidney function very closely with frequent labs. He basically just tells me to exercise daily and eat a low-salt diet in addition to staying well hydrated. He says a healthy diet is really the key to maintaining proper kidney function and really, really stresses the low-salt/no-added-salt diet aspect. I know these are obvious points, but that's really all he tells me regarding maintaining good kidney function.
