What it really boils down to is respect for private property rights. The nation was founded upon the principle that the legitimate purpose of government was to protect property rights. John Locke said that government was morally obligated to serve people by protecting life, liberty, and property (later change to the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness in the declaration of independence).

We’ve lost the respect for property rights, half the country thinks they’re entitled to the other half’s property and that’s a dangerous road to go down.
