Cities and rural living both have pluses and minuses. - He is being very judgmental

in his haste to criticize rural living. I find this interesting in a way. When Russia was the Communist Soviet Union they forced most of the citizens to move from their villages into the big cities. Same mindset.....yet those in control had no idea how to grow food from the land they took over.

You know what would really send this guy into a rage? Discovering for himself that most "rural people" would consider him an object of humor or pity within five minutes of him opening his mouth. Bonus humiliation if he also realizes that the guy who delivers tractor fuel is considered to be much more useful than a grad student/instructor of philosophy... unless said grad student/instructor also played football for a big 10 team when he was an underclassman.

In the city there is more pollution, more vermin, more gridlock traffic. Out of town we have more empathy for nature.

This young man seems to be a perpetual student. Graduated from Harvard in 2012 and is apparently still working on his Masters thesis seven years later. WWII was over in about that same time frame and it was a heck of a lot of those rural hicks that this twerp despises that now permits him to be a perpetual student.
