I'm in a similar situation to a degree.... - Just me Posted: Sep 4th, 2019 - 5:20 am In Reply to: I am lucky enough, if you want to think of it like that, - to have medical assistance, SM
I own a home, am single and if I were to have a large illness like cancer I can't take off - being an IC we all know means no work = no pay and frankly I've transcribed tons of oncology reports where the chemo makes you very sick and often the cancer comes back - it's a HUGE money money for doctors and hospitals. I'd rather enjoy the days I have left on earth and not be ill. I do have DNR/DNI orders not only on file with my PCP but with the local hospital and the family knows where my signed written copy is and that it had better be honored if the time came. I used to work with a group of surgeons that 1 would frankly tell people if they had a diagnosis of certain cancers "I'll refer you to an oncologist and they will recommend chemo and/or radiation - just think about the fact the treatment is going to make you very sick and with your current staging I can tell you the chance of cure is x - think about if you want to do that or not before you talk to them - it's up to you to decide."
