Communists started calling fascism right wing, which it isn't. Fascism is government control of production. It's more socialism than anything.
The Soviet propaganda machine never referred to the Nazis as "Nazis." They were always called "fascists" instead. Why? Because the Soviets knew that "Nazi" was the German abbreviation for "National Socialist German Workers Party." Stalin didn't want to remind folks that the Nazis were Leftists, just like he was.
