much weaker than those of the top candidates, had failed to make the final selection round. “

“Vargo told the Washington Examiner that the timing of Clinton’s call, which came while the program was choosing its 12 scholarship awardees from a group of 20 finalists, was a blatant attempt to game the selection process.”

People have said “so what”, who cares if a few people get in by Singer’s ‘side door’ route, everyone else who deserved admission also got in. Or did they?

While a 3.19 GPA is better than I had, and probably better than many of you guys who went to college, it still was not even close to FREE RIDE levels, particularly for a white guy.

But look at the second sentence quoted above. At least for this case, they had 12 slots and ONLY 12 slots, if this ‘side door’ had worked, one of those 12 people, all with much higher GPAs than this party boy, would have lost out.

Bottom line - while not exactly the same as the huge Singer Side-Door Scandal, it probably does the best job of showing that there are REAL VICTIMS...colleges do have a limited number of slots to fill, and people were pushed out because of Singer - in most cases, probably qualified people (i.e., whites and Asians), since those are the easiest people to reject.
