Not true - I disagree

I live in a state with one of the highest minimum wages and it has it’s pros and cons but one thing that needs to be clarified is that employers don’t hire people under the table and pay them less. It’s required by law for people to show proof of residence and immigration status or the employer pays fines and people get deported. I live in a city with a large Hispanic population and I know how it works. As far as higher wages having a negative impact, I haven’t seen that either. I work for one of the larger employers in town and they actually now pay entry level jobs at higher than minimum and everyone else had their pay scales adjusted upward, that’s been a win-win. The downsides I’ve seen have been in retail because some stores have closed but that’s probably also due to online shopping. It also costs more to eat out but there’s no proof it’s due to minimum wage. Some people might have gotten off the streets when they started making more money or improved their lives in other ways. I was against the minimum wage increase at first, but I think it has been more helpful than harmful. It does not facilitate the hiring of illegals, that is just not true.
