tethered to my laptop as we speak. I can dial out to friends and family and talk to them on my laptop directly without connecting to an ISP internet portal.

I don’t see why I can’t use the same set up as a dial in sound packet modem to a server with a proper software client. Telnet through wireless. The receiving BBS server and number would probably need to be hardwired to handle the multiple incoming traffic though.
