Polk County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warrant for the arrest of Bionel Cervin-Gomez, a 48-year-old illegal immigrant from Davenport sought for leaving the scene of an accident which resulted in the death of an unborn child.
According to a PCSO press release, deputies responded to a crash on Feb. 9 involving three vehicles near U.S. 17/92 and Shamrock Drive in Davenport. Cervin-Gomez was driving a GMC pickup when he violated the right-of-way of a Chevrolet Aveo, driven by 22-year-old Courtney Belser, who was eight months pregnant. There was a 1-year-old passenger in the Aveo as well, and she was not injured.
In addition, the pickup struck a Ford van driven by 23-year-old Mario Albaladejo, who was uninjured. Cervin-Gomez fled the scene on foot prior to deputies arriving.
Belser was transported to Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee as a precaution since she was so late in her pregnancy. Medical staff determined that her unborn son had died. All others involved in the crash were treated at the scene and did not require transportation for further medical care.
During the investigation, deputies obtained video surveillance that showed Cervin-Gomez purchasing beer at a convenience store two hours prior to the crash. They also discovered the GMC pickup had been recently purchased by Cervin-Gomez.
Deputies conducted a search of three different residences, but could not locate him. Cervin-Gomez has no driver’s license on file in any state. A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) inquiry was completed and deputies learned that Cervin-Gomez is a previously deported immigrant who returned to Mexico in 2000. He does not have current legal status to be in the United States.
