I know that my great nephew in West Virginia was out of school one day this week because the teachers were striking in protest of a vote that was scheduled to allow charter schools in the state. They got their wish. The vote was tabled. Caleb is such a smart kid he would do better in a different school--- parochial, home schooling, anything else--- but there is nothing like that available in their area. (His mother gets severe migraines, so home schooling would not be an option for her.) The powers that be seem to not want any competition. Sad. They have had plenty of snow days, too, let alone this frivolous strike...
