RIP THE BANDAID OFF AND LOOK AT AMERICA'S WOUNDS.

Last night, my wife's band had a gig. About five minutes before they went on, they found themselves searching for one member of the group, whose name I won't mention. He was found in a corner of the bar, with a 103 temperature, ashen white and shaking in a seizure. An ambulance was called, and he was taken away. Turns out, he was an uninsured diabetic who could no longer afford insulin. Today, he's still in the hospital.

Although his is a sad story, it's not atypical of the healthcare situation faced by much of America today, do we buy medication ... or pay for food and rent instead. We all hear stories like this regularly, and it's a national embarrassment that plays itself out across this country everyday. Don't kid yourself, people everywhere are dying because of it.

The easy reaction is to read a story like this, tag a sad emoji next to it, and scroll on. THAT IS NOT A SOLUTION. This is but one example of the many problems we now see in America, problems that effect us all directly or indirectly. Maybe you have a comfortable job, healthcare, a home currently, and think your life is fine. Maybe, just maybe, you might also be just a paycheck or two away from finding yourself in a similar situation.

The wounds facing America are more complex, yet no less important, than one man's healthcare delimma. Flint, Michigan still has poison water ... yet our government does nothing. In Puerto Rico, American citizens are still reeling from the devastation of a storm two years ago ... yet our government does nothing. Thousands of innocent children quietly languish in internment camps on our border, taken from parents they may never see again ... yet our government does nothing. Our roads and bridges are crumbling beneath us ... yet our government does nothing. We allow the folly of foreign war in the name of freedom to continue for twenty years ... yet our government does nothing. Homeless veterans die on our streets daily ... yet our government does nothing. We are killed in mass at our schools, churches, and workplaces ... yet our government does nothing. The wealth of our nation is being stolen right before our eyes in broad daylight by a wealthy few ... yet our government does nothing.

It's time America rips the bandaid off and thoroughly examines her wounds. Our problems will never be solved and our lives will never improve till we, as a nation, take an unbiased look at the root cause of our current situation ... our leadership.

The man currently serving as President has no empathy for, nor awareness of average Americans or their problems. He's nothing more than a lazy buffoon, a greedy and brazen name calling salesman who's verbal slight of hand diverts our eyes from the real problems we face. Thanks to him and his enablers, we live in a daily "Jerry Springer Show" rather than the noble democracy we were taught to believe America was. Our house is afire, and he tweets us to remain in our seats because everything is alright. IT'S NOT.

Our leader boasts about grabbing women by the ---privates, shooting someone in broad daylight on Fifth Avenue without consequence, mocks the handicapped, and we gleefully allow his insanity... thinking it's funny. Meanwhile as we're laughing, he and his puppeteers are quietly deregulating rules that effect our daily lives and the future of our children. Clean water, clean air, decent healthcare, and a fair economy for all Americans is now for sale to the highest bidder. By laughing at his antics, we have become compliant in his engineering of our collective demise.

Our President and his corrupt associates are a stain of the offices they hold and a threat to the democracy so many of our forefathers fought and died to protect. Democracy is a work in progress and requires all of us to be ever vigilant. Our rights, our freedoms, and our future wellbeing is at stake today. If we allow this criminal enterprise to rule over us unchecked and deregulate all our protections, we will soon regret our inactivity. I'm certain of it.

It's high time we rip the bandaid off and see the deeper wounds that lie beneath the surface. In the high speed sound bite world we now find ourselves in, it's easy for us all to lose focus on what's really important and what really effects our daily lives. It's time we take off our red hats and blue ties, get together as one America, and take a hard look at the road directly ahead of us. If we don't address our many problems now, we'll remain no more than mice on an exercise wheel, running full speed till we drop ... going nowhere.

We all know right from wrong. I still have hope Americans are smart enough to save ourselves and demand a better path to travel before it's too late. We all seek the same happiness. However, to save ourselves, we can no longer be mere observers. Together, we must recognize the absurdity we now find ourselves wallowing in, and recognize our obligation as citizens to point it out wherever we see it. -Tory De Prille
