Technology and replacing with new, frequently mandated by laws for the public good,. You can work around it, most times.

We have 3 carburetor cars, not one with a cat. But, they are casual, collector, hobby cars. My main transport is legal and morally compliant.

It was stated, WHEN replacing, it would become compliant. In more advanced parts of society, and nothing prevents these programs (fed taxes have given environmental progress breaks too) there are loan programs for energy efficient appliances and HVAC.

Grow. Please gawd, grow, or at least get out of the way.
