Oh, I dunno, I read their website and it - seems legit, unless you do not believe in truth

Posted: Jan 23rd, 2019 - 5:56 pm In Reply to: Microsoft browser extension - rates "accuracy" of news sites

Or, per Rudy, "Truth isn't truth."

Personally, I believe there IS, indeed, objective truth and objective falsity (or lies).

The way Newsguard do this is they use humans to research and rate sites. They use 9 criteria to do this as below.

"Criteria Weighting

Each of the nine criteria is assigned a certain number of points, as noted in the section above. The points add up to 100. A website that scores less than 60 points is rated red.

Note: The weighting of these criteria may change as we receive feedback and continue to develop our process. When such changes are made they will be noted here.

Criteria Weighting Points:
Criteria Points
Does not repeatedly publish false content 22
Gathers and presents information responsibly 18
Regularly corrects or clarifies errors 12.5
Handles the difference between news and opinion responsibly 12.5
Avoids deceptive headlines 10
Website discloses ownership and financing 7.5
Clearly labels advertising 7.5
Reveals who’s in charge, including any possible conflicts of interest 5
Provides information about content creators 5"

I don't see a problem with these criteria. Why would you? I will use this.

Thanks for drawing my attention to this extension, I had not heard of it. It is definitely a good way to find out what is, indeed, fake news and what is real news.
