I know someone who used to transcribe fraud reports - in the DA's office for welfare fraud

prosecutions. She met her husband there who was working in the overpayments section and would refer those cases to investigators who would work up the case and my friend prepare dthem for transit to the DA. She said she left because she couldn’t take it anymore, went from Food Stamps to MediCal with an old person caseload, but once a week had to work I&R (intake and referral) and would be working her buns off to get some old person in a rest home that had finally spent all their money on care eligible, when some 19 year old gal with 2 kids. Bam! Automatically eligible because of the kids. She just couldn’t take it anymore. California has state benefits for illegals.

There are many fraud investigators for welfare. Welfare fraud s real low on the totem pole. Even if it goes to court and they are convicted they usually just structure the payback out of future benefits. It’s disgusting.

If it’s found they defrauded $2k out of food stamps, they’ll give them $200 less per month until the $2k is paid. They don’t seem to ever just kick them out of the system unless it’s a huge amount.
