While I don't agree with the president 100%, he is partially correct and I'm glad he brought this subject to light. Maybe that was his M.O. all along. He's not afraid to take heat for things he says and sometimes we think they're pretty far out, but he's usually proven right in the long haul. That is unless, of course, you're a liberal. If that's the case, you just hate him and everything he stands for. Sad.

I don't have time to innumerate reasons why the president may be right or wrong, but there are many factors at play here. One is the liability of the electric companies (keeping low-hanging tree branches away from their power lines and maintaining the integrity of their power lines prior to high wind conditions; the winds ARE predicted).

Another is the forestry service. One can't stop Santa Ana winds and dry conditions due to no rain (that is Mother Nature), but there are many, many things that can be done to prevent these fires from completely consuming everything, including making it mandatory that all brush be cleared from ALL structures and lighting back fires when Santa Ana winds are NOT predicted.

Don't even get me started here. I have lived in California long enough (50 years) to know that this is a partially preventable situation.

I remember a fire in San Diego in 2003 that was started by an illegal alien in the back country because he got lost and was hoping to be found. He did not intend for the fire to grow into a wild fire that was the biggest and most deadly at the time, but that was the end result. The stupid man lit a camp fire during a Santa Ana wind condition and due to his own ignorance, he killed 15 people and burned down approximately 2000 homes. That was a completely preventable fire.
