King Abdullah supported Syrian rebels attempting to overthrow Syrian President Bashar Assad (strong ally of Iran’s). He also supported Egypt’s military-backed government when it overthrew its Islamist president and also committed airpower to support U.S. efforts in fighting the Islamic State in Iraq.
The new King Salman so far has continued the same policies of Abdullah. It's mostly about stopping Iran's influence in the Middle East.
Saudi Arabia is the leader of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and was caught driving oil prices down as a means of hurting Iran, but it was attempting to hurt the U.S. fracking industry.
But their policy on women hasn't change. They've always been this way. In fact, women couldn't even drive and had to walk behind men. That's why I always scratch my head when I hear feminists in this country. Keep things in perspective. We have so much freedom here.
