So it is really the Justice Department statement - not FBI

I have seen quite a former and current FBI people say that this is not an extreme request and it is not necessarily for a crime, just the typical background check they do for any questions that come up with a potential SC justice.

In Kavanaugh's case the Republicans have pushed him through so fast and disallowed much of his previous history and documentation in the Trump administration, now this comes up and it's brushed aside?

Another thing is, if Kavanaugh and his friend who were involved are forced to answer questions from the FBI, guess what, lying to the FBI is a felony, so he can't get away with it as easily as he has perjured himself numerous times during regular questioning.

I really have not heard the FBI reaction at all. I guess they figure Trump does not want to hear their opinion so he has given them one himself, but that is not, in fact, standard procedure, and they should investigate further.
