He spent his own money to free the slaves in an expensive legal battle which dragged on for seven years.

Americans honor the flag, as it is the symbol of the republic. A republic is where THE PEOPLE are KING, ruling through their representatives -- their public servants.

So when someone calls a bribe "Democracy in Action," I have to wonder what is being taught in school anymore about history?
