A complicated and lengthy process to be sure, over many years, especially the cost of any education of children and then their contributions to be accurate. I personally do not believe immigrants are that big a deal to the extent this administration and the top 1% would lead you to believe. Without legal SS numbers, they are also not the drain on the welfare, so to speak, that people think they are. If they are illegals, they have to pay into the system, funding YOUR retirement, but will never draw it themselves. If they work, THEY PAY payroll taxes. If not, that is on their employer, who is paying them less than minimum wage under the table. They pay taxes on every single thing they buy. They support the economy. People complain about them being ILLEGAL. I do not believe that is the true concern at all. I believe it is because they are of a different color/race, religion, language, etc. When your ancestors came here, they took and sold land that did not belong to them. They changed the way of life of what "America" was before they arrived. They became citizens just by writing their name in a book. Done. Is it that we are afraid of someone doing the same thing we did? No wonder there are so many illegals here now. It takes years and years to the pathway to citizenship now. This whole deportation thing is just the 1% convincing the working poor to blame a subset of working poor people for the fact that they are all poor instead of realizing that the reason they are poor is due to vast income and tax inequality, resource price inflation and stagnant wages. The existence of an illegal/poor person is not why you are poor. It is because of the 1% who control everything and refuse to increase wages. Illegals have a TIN number when they come here to work. They pay taxes and social security, but are never allowed to collect on those when they retire. They come here for a better life for their children, and I can't say that I blame them. That is how we all ended up here. Only the desperate among illegals go to an ER when they are sick, the same ER where uninsured Americans end up. There was a study done by the Trump administration, reported in NYT. I don't remember the exact figures and it was never reported by the administration to the public, but the amount of taxes paid by immigrants is enormous, unlike what they would have you think (you can access by Googling but opinions differ). As far as crimes go, I do not believe that crimes committed by illegals will ever equate to those committed by the American people themselves. How many murders are committed by illegals, I do not know. How many are committed by Americans killing Americans. Do you know? Does it make it okay because they are not brown people doing the killing. I ponder the thought of racism being promoted by this administration that is actually working. I see it in taxes, crime, deportation, and even those who protest unequal treatment by kneeling during a football game. They insist this is hatred for America. They believe in freedom of speech as long as it is speech they like. They insist it is disrespect for the flag. It has nothing to do with that. These people do not want to discuss the real reasons because they would have to admit there are real problems. The American flag IS A SYMBOL. A symbol of freedom, as in the First Amendment. I would never kneel myself, but I understand why some do - it is because others love that SYMBOL more than they love and respect the very definition of freedom itself. People do not protest because they hate America. They do it because they love America, and they love themselves enough to speak up when they believe they are being wronged. I know many of you completely disagree with me. That's okay. I will not call you names or wish you harm. I do believe that you love America as well. Wish we could all chill with the name calling and violence no matter which party you side with. Research facts and figures, and not just from right or left leaning publications. Be individual thinkers. Love one another.
