Apply for food stamps ASAP (take a copy of utility bills, mortgage/rent agreement or receipt of payment, and pay stubs from last month). Tell them the situation. Ask them what other assistance you might qualify for. They're there to help! Let all bill collectors, customer service reps, whoever, know that you've been laid off. Most will work with you. Make a list and call them all...even if it's not late at the moment. Being proactive with them is better than avoidance! If your kids don't already get free lunch at school, fill out that paperwork (go to the school or board of education if it's nearby). In my state qualifying for EBT (food stamps) qualifies you automatically but doing it through school system now will speed up the lunch thing. I hope your unemployment goes through fast! So many of us are paycheck to paycheck (or not even that), with no cushion for "surprises." It's a very stressful situation. I'm sorry about your butthead ex. Some people are just turds. Take a deep breath and show your girls you got this...cause you do!!
