Tax cuts - Prosecute corruption sm Posted: Dec 29th, 2017 - 5:57 pm In Reply to: On the charity part - of the post
"I just believe that since they claim this is a middle class tax cut, they should have allowed the charitable donations to remain even with the standard deduction, even without itemizing."
I agree, that would have been nice. The reality is they didn't have the 60 Senate votes it would have taken to get past the $1.5T over 10 years limitation.
"It is not to say that people still won't donate, but to many people, $20 in reduced taxes is $20."
True. I was thinking in terms of my own case. It's worth it to me to donate. It's not worth my time to itemize. There were a few years where I tried to itemize and it took me a good 4 hours to read through everything I could itemize, then track down the proof, check how much of it I could deduct it, then add it all up. If all I was going to save was $20, I wouldn't bother. It's just not worth my time. But that's me. That's the point I was trying to make. Penny wise, pound foolish and all that. :)
