There are 5 ways the new tax act will hurt Dems in 2018:
1. People appreciate the tax break. The Tax Policy Center says 80% of tax payers will get a cut on average of $2100. Only 5% will pay more.
2. People appreciate the need to not have to itemize deductions. The higher standard deduction, higher Child Tax Credit, and $10,000 SALT deduction limit will make filing taxes a lot easier for a lot of people.
3. Drilling in ANWR will reduce gas prices. The cost of oil is set by a market. Market prices fluctuate based on speculation related to supply and demand, among other things. Being able to drill in ANWR will increase supply, decrease demand, and cause prices to drop.
4. People appreciate a booming economy, with lower unemployment and higher wages.
5. People realize Dems lied to them about the tax cuts act.
I can only think of one way the tax cut act will hurt Pubs in 2018:
1. None of the above things happen.
Is that even possible? Even #5. Will people not see how Dems have taken a stand against the bill? What happens to the 10 Dem Senate seats, up for re-election in 2018, in states Trump won? There's a good chance Pubs get a filibuster-proof Senate majority.
It may get interesting after 2018, when the Individual Mandate drops off. If insurance rates go up, I see that as hurting opinions about Obamacare, not the tax cuts. Insurance rates have gone up every year that Obamacare has been in place. Insurers have been dropping off the exchanges. The tax cuts won't change those facts.
Maybe the news media doesn't report these upsides. Fox, MSNBC, and CNN have a combined primetime viewership of less than 5 million. Trump's twitter has 45 million followers, more than 9 times as many people.

It's impossible for people to not know the economy is booming.
