I'm fine with the US business tax structure being made competitive - with the rest of the world and with....

Phrases like "corporate welfare" have no real meaning and are nothing but shortcuts for doing your own real thinking.

One thing I can say with absolute certainty is that not one word of truth has been spoken about this bill by Democrats. In fact, their rhetoric has been so extreme that any sensible person would reject it on its face. "Armageddon"? "The worst bill ever to be proposed in the history of the country"??

What I'm starting to suspect is that the Democrat leadership knows very well what they will never admit, namely that these tax reforms will lead to an even greater economy and that, if so, the midterm elections will be a disaster for the left. That's why you're hearing this over-the-top language from them. It's the nothing more or less than the sound of panic. The icy sensation is creeping up their spine that the mid-terms will be anything but the slam-dunk they were hoping for.

Now, they could have blunted this looming catastrophe in a very simple way, namely by participating in the process, helping to shape the tax reforms, and then casting at least some votes for the bill so it would not be a Republican weapon in 2018.

This would have been doubly smart, knowing that they couldn't stop it anyway.

...and to add some interest, despite the disadvantages to Republicans in 2018, the leadership would have welcomed the participation of even a few Democrats because they weren't certain until the very last minute that they had enough Republicans on board to achieve passage. At election time, they could have countered with "It was passed on a bipartisan basis!"

Contrary to what you might have heard, Democrats were very definitely invited - repeatedly - to join, rather than to obstruct.

If you were then to ask why they couldn't see the advantages of this very obvious tactic - one which has been used successfully many times in the past by parties in the minority - it's hard to say, but the differential diagnosis for this blindness would have to include Trump Rage Syndrome. TRS is a viral disease that adversely affects the brain's ability to process logical thought and make rational choices.

The Democrats decided on election night in 2016 that they would never vote for anything even remotely considered to be part of the "Trump agenda", period, end of song, finito. And, as we all know, that is exactly how they've behaved.

It apparently never occurred to any of them, even the brightest among them, that there would be times when this never-Trump-agenda strategy would backfire on them. I think this will prove to one of those times - but it has now dawned on them too late to alter their self-destructive behavior. There's nothing left for them now but to reflect on their bad choices, but I doubt that they'll do even that or are able to do so.

Those two empty "Schumer" and "Pelosi" chairs at the press conference will be shown over and over and over...
