Will the Republican tax plan cut exchange health insurance? - sm

Posted: Dec 19th, 2017 - 9:41 am

I recently saw an old friend who is extremely conservative--we never mention anything political to preserve our friendship.  She recently needed to have several surgeries and her husband is disabled.  Last year, without health insurance, she would have paid $70,000 for care.  As it was, with her exchange insurance plus her deductible, she paid out-of-pocket $22,000.  I thought I was going to hear a bunch of Obamacare bashing, but NO!  She was grateful they were able to get the exchange insurance and she is incredibly worried about what will happen with this tax reform package.  With their pre-existing condititions, age, they will go bankrupt if they cannot get insurance.  (back to the good ol' days?)

I did some reading this morning and I found that 55% of citizens are not in favor of the Republican tax bill.  About 61% like Obamacare and do not want it cut.  What are the Republicans thinking?

On the other hand, I cannot find hardly any information on what this bill acutally contains.  Why are they not giving the public any time to comment on this?  All I hear is that the super rich, like Trump and his buddies, are going to make out like bandits and the tax cuts for individuals will expire in a few years.  Huh?   I have seen where the Republicans cut taxes an then try to cut programs.  I am very worried because in my studies I have found that nursing home care costs about $7,000 a month.  Where will all these nursing home residents go if they do not have Medicaid to help?   I may get a tax cut of about a $1000 a year--that is not going to go very far with the cost of insurance and everything else going up.

I hope someone here has some answers.
