So, do you have any rational, coherent thoughts about the proposed tax bills? - The final bill has yet to be hammered out.

The parties have done an excellent job of creating a populace that is only interested in one thing with regard to any proposed governmental action:

Does MY party approve or disapprove of (whatever)? This now seems to come down to which party proposes the action (it wasn't always that way).

If my party approves, I approve. If my party disapproves, I disapprove.

I believe whatever my party tells me.

The question you were asked was pretty simple. Would doubling the standard deduction (if that's how the reconciliation bill ends up) put more money in your pocket or not?

It really doesn't matter WHO asks the question.

What we desperately need in this country are people who refuse to be led around by the nose ring like a cow - no matter who's on the other end of the rope.

One thing I can tell you for sure: Neither Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Paul Ryan or Mitch McConnell are ever to be believed without a lot of serious inquiry of your own.

NONE OF THEM! The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth? Honey, that's not the game they play. What they do in Washington has nothing to do with any of that!

You can start by rejecting the memes that have been built up (favorable or unfavorable) around the parties. If you think Democrats care about the poor, visit some cities where they've governed for decades. If you think Republicans are staunch defenders of "traditional family values" ask yourselves how many have rejected the support of the Log Cabin Republicans. If you think Democrats don't curry the favor of the rich, or the Republicans do nothing to help people of low income, think again. If you think Obama's land grab was about the environment, think again. If you think Trump's reversal was about state's rights, think again.

...and by "think again" what I really should say is "think" because, for many, seriously thinking about and investigating the realities behind the rhetoric spewed by the political elite won't be a repeat exercise at all. It will be the first time they've ever tried it after years of hauling the party mail, which is a loada crappa.
