Unfortunately, newspaper and TV news have shown themselves to be unreliable (at least to the point of arriving at conclusions such as "guilty" or "innocent").

Put it this way. If I believe something, I can tell you why. If I can't tell you why I should believe it, then I neither believe nor disbelieve it. To me, it's just one of many unsubstantiated claims that float around in the air - like Saddam Hussein's chemical weapons and nerve gas, remember those claims? People would have done much better had they followed my rule.

Here's a tip: It is when you WANT to believe (or disbelieve) something that you should most rigorously look for objective reasons to believe or disbelieve anything. Absent that, just treat these things as unsubstantiated claims that might or might not be true, might or might not be partially true but partially false, might or might not be different than what is claimed, etc.

We must get back to thinking clearly. We simply must, because there are too many forces out there in the world who would gladly deceive us if necessary to achieve their objectives...and many are very clever at it.
