"I can't understand why anyone would accept lying, bullying, name calling and vulgar behavior from any president despite their political party."

My theory is Republicans chose Trump because they were sick of the unfair way the media treated Republican leaders vs. the way they treated Democrats. There is a lot of justified anger.

In 2008, they chose McCain who was none of those things. In 2012, they chose Romney a virtual boy scout among politicians. The media savaged them.

Bill Maher said it best in the run up to the election:

I know liberals made a big mistake because we attacked your boy Bush like he was the end of the world, and he wasn’t. And Mitt Romney we attacked that way. I gave Obama a million dollars … “we’re so afraid of Mitt Romney!” Mitt Romney wouldn’t have changed my life that much or yours. Or John McCain. They were honorable men who we disagreed with, and we should’ve kept it that way. So we cried wolf, and that was wrong. But this is real. This is gonna be way different.

He wasn't telling Republicans anything they didn't already know. The media is very biased against Republicans. They elected Trump first because they liked what he was saying. Second because they enjoyed watching the media lose it over Trump. The lying, bullying, and name calling is all part of Trump proving himself a populist. It's a signal to them that he understands their anger. (I'm not sure what you mean by vulgar behavior. It's not like he's walking around the Oval Office in a half-opened bathrobe.)

Don't forget the media painted Romney as a liar and a bully too. It's pretty clear they're going to say that kind of stuff about any Republican candidate whether it's true or not. That means Republican voters automatically get painted with that same brush, because they supported the liar and bully. In that sense, they didn't have anything to lose by electing Trump. The media was going to trash them anyway, no matter who the candidate was. (Remember when they went after Rubio for his wife's traffic tickets?)

If you asked a Republican how they can accept Trump they'd probably tell you they don't appreciate his personality and they wish he'd stop. But they're pretty happy with the way the economy is going and how he's taken the fight to ISIS and Syria. Secretly, I doubt they care about his personality. He's good entertainment. The media plays right into that. They can't help it.

I was pretty happy with the economy under Clinton too. I didn't think his womanizing should have gotten him kicked out. It was his lying under oath that bothered me. If you could make the decision, would you have impeached Clinton over his relationship with Lewinsky?
