That's why it's important to know the original meaning (Hebrew, Greek) as many of scripture has been horribly misinterpreted. For instance, spare the rod, spoil the child. The rod is a symbol of Jesus, the shepherd's rod is a use to gently bring the lost back to the herd. It did not mean to beat a child, as many organized religions thought.
