Wampanoag tribe, Samoset and Tisquantum (Squanto). Samoset and Squanto poke English. They had a good relationship. He actually remained with the Pilgrims when the others left and taught them how to fish, hunt, trap beavers, plant corn and pumpkin, tap maple syrup, many essential skills.
Squanto was instrumental to the survival of the Pilgrims -- so much so that, according to William Bradford, the Pilgrims considered Squanto “a special instrument sent of God for their good, beyond their expectation.”
