A Sad Life. - JMO

Since his death, I have been reading up on him. I have learned many things that I did not know about him.

One look at his bio parents (contrary to popular belief, Shirley Jones was his stepmother so no blood relation), who were both gorgeous, and you know that their child was destined to have the look.

He is considered the first teen idol of that generation (followed by Bobby Sherman, his brother Shaun, et al.).

His parents divorced, and of course his father married Shirley Jones. His half brother Shaun says that David was on the outside, never fitting in with his "new" family.

His meteoric rise to teen idol status occurred at the ripe old age of 20! He was a millionaire.

Fame took its toll on him.

He had a very strained relationship with his father. This coupled with his fame toll are usually cited as what was behind the alcoholism.

He had a strong gay following (probably because of his androgynous looks).

He was the only Partridge Family cast member who could actually play, and of course he could sing. He felt like his Keith Partridge role was a vise that strangled him professionally and creatively.

All three of his marriages ended in divorce (in the interview linked below, he was still married to #3).

My overall impression is that he was a very sensitive person. I had read somewhere that he and wife #3 lived on a horse ranch somewhere in the SW.

There is so much interesting stuff here that I don't have time to type it all out. This is a very entertaining -- Dave Madden and Danny Bonnaduci (sp?) are hilarious! -- and interesting video.

I hope you guys enjoy this and come away not only appreciating David Cassidy's talent but also with an understanding of his demons and struggles.

May he Rest in Peace.
