The question isn't "What made Nuance and Medquist buy smaller companies?" The question is "What made smaller, mid-size companies want to sell out?" Why did the heads of Webmedx and Transcend decide to sell instead of grow?
What made them sell? Increased business regulations and increased cost of doing business.
Those are transcription examples because that's the business I know best. Businesses in all industries had this issue under Obama.
