Previous presidents used diplomacy to pretend like they were doing something about the problem. Meanwhile, NK kept improving missiles and nuclear warheads.

Diplomacy hasn't worked.

Every pundit I've seen (for what that's worth) says the any peaceful solution to NK involves China.

I'm not sure I'd say that Trump is correct to threaten nuclear war and invasion of NK. But that is his style.

It looks to me like he's trying to pressure China to do something about NK. In essence, Trump is saying to China, "NK is your mess. Clean it up or else I'm going to. And yes, ALL options are on the table."

In that sense, I think Trump IS trying to act diplomatically. But many people are missing that. He's not trying to buy NK with food in exchange for them stopping their nuke program (which they never stop). Instead, he's pressuring China to play a part in a permanent solution to a problem that has reached a crisis point.
