Grandchildren are grown, married, with young children of their own. I live 1-1/2 hours away. What I would like to do is get a caregiver/companion, who will come a half day, clean up a bit, help them with medication, bathing, laundry, cook their meals, and also drive them to grocery store, bank, doctor appointments and pharmacy. The problem would be weekends. I hear it is very expensive then, but I could go and help on weekends if needed. The problem is convincing them they need it.
