"Most" normal people DO take the standard deduction. The IRS says 30.1% of households itemize. 68.5% take the standard deduction. If those were presidential poll numbers the headline would be "vast majority" instead of "most."

Are you trying to school me on what the word "most" means?

Okay, let's look at it this way. Get out your tax return for last year. You itemized, right? Did your itemized total come out to more than twice the standard deduction or more than $25,200 for married filling jointly, $12,600 for single? The tax plan I saw says Trump wants to double the standard deduction. If you didn't hit those numbers when you itemized then you'll also save money on his plan.
