No one has mentioned the Dakota Access Pipeline on this board, but I am asking for help now from everyone on this board. Please understand both sides of this issue. Imagine my surprise when I opened Facebook this morning and I see the top trending story is that "thousands of wild bison" magically appeared at the pipeline. Seriously, folks, the picture on Facebook is not from and has nothing to do with DAPL. There were a few buffalo at the pipeline protest, but that was because someone - I wasn't there, so I can't say who - thought that chasing a a herd of buffalo around the site would really add "authenticity" to their riot. There are no wild buffalo (or bison) in North Dakota.
Most of what is being said by the Tribe is false. The "protest" is no longer peaceful - it is on private land - they are the ones destroying the land. They were asked multiple times and members of the tribe were involved in the decision about where the pipeline should be. They were offered millions of dollars to let it go through the reservation, but they turned it down, holding out for more money and were not happy when the pipeline moved to another site. This is the real reason they are protesting (rioting). Also 85% of the people there are not Native Americans (85% of those arrested are not from ND and not natives).
North Dakotans have been praying for a good 2 -day blizzard that starts with freezing rain and ends with 45 mph winds - then all the non-native North Dakotans would go home......This is costing North Dakota millions of dollars and only involves a handful of people from ND and the rest are people that will move on to the next riot as soon as this one is over.
Whether you want crude oil to get to the refinery by pipeline, truck or train, it's going to get there - because neither you nor I wants to give up the gas in our car or all the other things that are made from plastic. We are the consumers and those who drill the oil and transport it are just giving us what we think we deserve.
My plea to you is that you don't perpetrate this myth that this is a "peaceful protest" and that the Native Americans are protecting their water supply (false). I personally know 5 law officers whose lives have been impacted by this because they are being asked to go the pipeline and risk their lives working hours overtime to keep this thing "peaceful." It is escalating, folks, and unless we stop "glorifying" it and making it into something it is not, someone is going to get hurt. Please stop sharing the photos and blogs and false stories on Facebook, etc. I'm asking if you don't live here and are not involved in it here on the ground, don't perpetrate the lies. If you want to fight against oil, stop driving your car and stop using products made from oil - put the companies out of business.
