I think I ruined my refrigerator.

Posted: Feb 15, 2015

I had a ton of magnets on the front of my refrigerator, which has a textured almond finish. When I removed the magnets, some of them left spots and some of them took little pieces of the finish off. Is there any way to fix this? Thank you.

Never heard of magnets causing that kind of damage. sm - MUPPuppy.

Good to know. Anyway, hardware stores sell smooth touch-up paint for appliances and fixtures. I used it for my sink. There are paints with texture compounds in them, but not sure about appliance paints.

Are the spots rust? - ???

Magnets are very bad for refrigerators. I had a couple on the side of mine that left rust spots. It was the same textured pebbled finish.

Nothing I have tried will remove the stains. I did get some of the rust off with Bon Ami but was afraid to be too aggressive for fear of damaging the finish even further.

You might try Zud on the rust. Perhaps use a cotton swab.

If it is truly awful, you could try appliance paint.

Same thing happened to me - Anon

This happened over 15 years ago (still have the same fridge). I didn't have a lot of magnets, but one took the finish off. My fridge is textured black, so fortunately the bad spot can only be seen from from certain angles. I have not found a way to fix it, unfortunately.

Just cover the spot with another magnet. - xx

Thank you to everyone who responded, including the gal who emailed me. I tried Clorox wipes and the Mr. Clean eraser thing, but neither worked. I can't cover it with another magnet because I'm decluttering in the event that I end up putting my place on the market. I'm going to try that appliance paint. That sounds like the ticket!

There's a paint you can buy. - We did it

Look in Home Depot or Lowe's.

Energy Star and I am wondering how often they defrost.  This doesnt seem to defrost often compared to the old one.  It is a GE 17.5 cu ft.  Not so big for just two of use.  Much different than the 13 year old one.  I am starting to get paranoid anymore with the way things are made and issues with new things you get.   ...

Question: Food Left In The Refrigerator, In Cans. Does ItSep 20, 2016
I have someone insisting, to their last breath,  that I cant leave food in a tin can in the refrigerator for a few days or it's going to grow botulism.  Not even baby food in the glass jar and metal lid.   Can't even really leave a can of people food in there for even a couple hours until I use it again. I put cat food in there, left in the can.  When I buy meat baby food, I put it back in the refrigerator with the lid on it.   Every single time I am ...
