Why are only conservatives on this board tonight?

Posted: Mar 22, 2010

Now that they got what they wanted, the progressives have disappeared. You'd think they'd be gloating all night long. Or is their "job" here finished? Very strange....

;

I consider myself a progressive, voted for Obama and his "change" (sm) - Just Sayin ....

[ In Reply To ..]
However, the change that occurred earlier tonight was not part of it. Definitely I wanted healthcare reform but not in this manner and not with all of the underhanded dirty deals that have gone on with it. I honestly believed when I voted for Obama that he would be different, that he was going to bring about a refreshing change to Washington, instead I have been thoroughly sickened and disappointed.

Well, if you're a progressive, you're an exception to the rule.... - Anon

around here. You're nice and capable of having a respectful discussion.

So that was my biggest complaint during the campaign. Obama made such wonderful promises and said such pretty things, but no one ever asked him what exactly he had DONE in the past. Talk is cheap, and now we see the results of electing a boy to a man's job. But doesn't he look nice in his suit?

I blame the media 90% for helping to elect him. He was the one they picked for us, and they didn't really care what his vision was for America because that would never pertain to them since they're special. Only the little people would suffer from having a quasi-socialist in the White House.

However, the people who voted for him are also to blame for not doing their homework and checking the candidates out thoroughly. They believed all the crap about Sarah Palin, even if it was blatently untrue, yet they knew next to nothing about Obama, and didn't want to.

I only hope the America we knew is still standing in 2012 so we can try to save her.

There is no reason for me to gloat. I am, however, relieved. (sm) - Nikki

Thanks to President Obama, I will now be able to acquire health insurance, and I'm very grateful for that.

As far as going against the will of the people, I voted for him mostly because of his promise to reform healthcare, so he didn't go against my will. Instead, he kept his promise, and he did the best he could do, given the complete and total lack of cooperation from the Republicans.

As far as why there were not so many liberals on the board tonight, I can't speak for them, but you're not a very pleasant person to associate with on any occasion, so instead of suggesting they were paid to blog, you should take a look in the mirror.

I saw the post and considered answering it but - ASmom

[ In Reply To ..]
decided not to for the exact reasons Nikki stated. Who needs the abuse and silliness and more right wing talking points? Not me. Thanks for saying it for me, Nikki. You can speak for me any time. :)

Well, you guys got what you wanted, so why bother with us conservatives, right? - Anon

[ In Reply To ..]
You've succeeded in destroying the finest healthcare system in the world so we could all be "equal." Now we'll all be miserable, and poorer, together. Fabulous. You have a nice day, too.
The finest healthcare system in the world ranks 37th behind - Costa Rica and Dominican Republic.
[ In Reply To ..]
How many times do I have to post this before it sinks in. The criteria used to measure this was life expectancy, preventable deaths, health care delivery performance and total health expenditure as a percentage of GNP.

This is to correct a typo on my other post that stated 39th, but we are still lagging behind 36 other countries that institute socialist systems.

Instead of trying to bait libs into an insult swap meet, why not trying mulling over the reality of a few well founded facts?
The problem was never the healthcare, it was - the payment system and
[ In Reply To ..]
the fact that so many were left out, kicked out for-god forbid-getting sick, or losing homes and lives over it. Conservatives will also benefit, just as they did from unionization, safer food and drinking water and so many other things. I genuinely hope that you do have a nice day, and perhaps see that this was never about "gloating"-it was always about the greater good.
Have a good day, Anon.

Thanks, ASMom. Here's hoping for friendlier times on this board. (sm) - Nikki

[ In Reply To ..]

Now that this issue is behind us, hopefully both sides can begin to treat each other with dignity and respect. I won't hold my breath, but it would be a very pleasant change. Smile

By the way, I almost didn't take the bait, too, but then I realized the post was nothing but negative innuendo, and I wanted to challenge that.

I hope you have a great day.

P.S. I just saw your post W-A-Y down the page about paying for healthcare for Iraqis. I must have misunderstood because it seemed as if you were asking me if I had a problem with paying for it, and I said I did. It really bothers me to think I hurt your feelings somehow, and if I did, I sincerely apologize and hope you know I'd never do that on purpose. I did reply to the post (pretty much what I just said here), but I didn't want you to miss my apology.

No problem. I figured as much and it did not - ASmom
[ In Reply To ..]
hurt my feelings. I figured it was a misunderstanding and you do not have a hurtful bone in your body. :)

Wow, Nikki, I NEVER attack you personally, only your stand on the issues... - Anon

[ In Reply To ..]
So you're finally going to be responsible and get health insurance?

I'm happy for you then, even though we had to dismantle a health insurance system that 85% of Americans (or 255,000,000) were pretty happy with so that 25,000,000 (about 8.5%) could be insured.

Of course, we're continuing to leave out 20 million Americans who still won't have insurance with this HCR. What will we do about them, or don't you care anymore since you got yours?

Then again, the system will be so bogged down with 25 million more patients and 1/3 less doctors, maybe they won't be missing out on anything great.

Anon, you attack EVERYONE personally. (sm) - Nikki

[ In Reply To ..]

How dare you write, "So you're finally going to be responsible and get health insurance?" You don't know anything about me or my situation. A few years ago, the insurance companies have made it impossible for me to purchase health insurance because I simply couldn't afford it. This is the kind of personal attacks you routinely throw out there.

You started this thread in order to spread your vitriol, continue the attacks (suggesting that the Democrats would "gloat" and/or that they were paid to post here) and generally to start trouble and create more hatred and bitterness on this board.

You throw around "facts" all the time, but you rarely supply any links to back them up.

You seem like a very bitter person, and I'm just plain tired of all the fighting and nastiness on this board - from both sides - but you never miss an opportunity to take a shot at somebody on a personal basis, or on an entire group of people on the basis of their political leanings.

Have a nice day. Smile

I have never once said you're an unhappy or mean or bitter person.... - Anon

like you did to me in the post above. That was totally uncalled for.
And calling me irresponsible was just plain ignorant. (nm) - Nikki

Sorry, Anon but Nikki is correct-not to say - ASmom
[ In Reply To ..]
that the rest of us are not guilty at times as well. You just seem to take it a step further sometimes. Lots of insults and TONS of sarcasm.
Hopefull, we can ALL tone down the rhetoric here???
I think we we should be careful about accusing posters - Anon (but a different Anon)
[ In Reply To ..]
There are many different posters all using anon and Anon. Personally I like it that way because your anonymity stays anon. You are accusing someone of insulting others, yet you don't know if it was the original one who insulted. How can you be sure it was Anon and not Anon (a different Anon). I wouldn't jump to conclusions.

As for insults....I've seen them on both sides. Lots of dems have been calling pubs ignorant, stupid and idiots on this board.

All I say is before jumping on the bandwagon to protect a poster you should check to make sure it is the correct poster you are talking about.

This board has been especially bad the past few days due to the high tensions of this disastrous plan they passed. It passed, but I am hopeful good will prevail and it can be rescinded or will not make it past the next vote. I don't hold out much hope because of what happened with the spendusmore plan a few months ago. But everyone has got to have hope.

What I hope is they make insurance affordable for all (even me), that I can buy the same health insurance policy at the cost that people in the mid west and south pay, that people won't be thrown out of their health plans when they get sick, people with pre-existing conditions can get health insurance (like my sister and my brother and my sister-in law and many many others), and most of all important is they do not force everyone to get health insurance if they don't want to. If people are healthy and want to put that same money into their own account to use for when they do have to go to the doc, dentist, eye visits, etc (last time I went was 3 years ago for a routine OB/GYN and paid out of my pocket), or if they have to go to the ERs, or if they get hospitalized and they can pay out of their own pocket that is the way it should be. Everyone should have the choice to buy health insurance at a reasonable rate or not buy health insurance (and of course not only do they have to buy health insurance, it will have to meet the governments approval). I truly truly hope that part does not pass. I hear many states are going to sue and rightfully so as it is unconstitutional.

Anyway...didn't mean to get sidetracked.....

Just everyone should be 100% positive before accusing people on this board of writing posts that they really are the person who wrote posts they are being accused of. Especially with Anon and anon because there are so many. I was even using anon2 for awhile but I see others are using that too. No big deal, we just all have to be more careful.
Thanks for the reminder. There is one Anon - ASmom
[ In Reply To ..]
who seems particularly angry in his/her posts and that is who I was thinking I was responding too, but you are right to remind me and everyone else that you never really know who it is. Thanks.
Well I only said it because I did the same thing and was - Anon (but a different Anon)
[ In Reply To ..]
told I was accusing the wrong person of something and that there were more than one.
Maybe try Anony1 or something like that so - ASmom
[ In Reply To ..]
you do not keep getting blamed for this person. Obviously, the ideal would be that all of the nastiness and name-calling, sarcasm, and generally hateful behavior would just stop for everyone here, but I suspect that is too much to hope for.
That's a good idea - - Anony1
[ In Reply To ..]
I will see how long it takes before someone else posts with that moniker. LOL

I agree that I would like to see less bickering....but I am sorry to say I have been guilty of it too. This last week has been a very very frustrating and disappointing week.

I will end my thought at that...except I only pray it will get better.
I'm wondering if you've thought about the reason - RAO
[ In Reply To ..]
you said you've been using Anon? If you don't want anyone to know who you are, I guess the point of using Anon is to name yourself Anonymous? If others are using the same moniker there is some anonymity there I guess, but then you have the problem of being mistaken for someone who is nasty.

I guess what I'm saying is....if you want anonymity and start calling yourself something distinguishable, then what's the point of wanting to use Anon?

We are just happy that more people will have - coverage and we will leave

[ In Reply To ..]
the gloating up to you. Not interested, just happy that some people will be getting some desperately needed assistance.

Well, the 85% of us who were perfectly happy with our insurance... - Anon

[ In Reply To ..]
are not so happy with the progressives in Washington who've just destroyed the finest healthcare system in the world so we could all share a much crappier system. Of course, it won't affect them, just us little people. And you expect me to throw a party now? I don't think so.

Insult me all you want....it's what you libs do to the opposition....but the truth is a majority of Americans didn't want this kind of change. And there will be hell to pay in November.

What good will it do you personally when the GOP is in charge again and they start to tinker with this, only they shove it down YOUR throat? Will you be okay with it then? Remember, politics is like a pendulum - what goes around, comes around.

The finest healthcare system in the world is ranked 39th behind - Costa Rica and Dominican Republic

[ In Reply To ..]
The rest of the 36 are socialst systems in one form or another. This fact is offered in the spirit of spreading the truth, which libs prefer over hysteria and fear. Maybe while you are assembling your destructuve agendas and proposals for the campaign, why not try taking away Americans social security and Medicare and see how far you get with that?

Yeah, we're quaking in our boots over here.
Typo. Correct rank is 37th. - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
xx
You are entitile to your opinion, however, fact is - We do have the finest healthcare in the world
[ In Reply To ..]
The fact is our health care is far superior to other countries health care and why most people from other countries come to our country. They don't go to Costa Rica or Canada or Israel or etc, for their care...they come to America....and seeing as we are living in this country and we enjoy the finest care in the world we don't want it changed to make it worse. Being 37th is just fine by me I don't want to be 67th or 77th, or even 191st. Leave our health care alone.

P.S. The poster you replied to did not say that we were the #1 on the list. Just said we had the finest health care in the world, which is true. We do. I would trust my health care in this country over France or Israel or United Arab Emirates any day.
We just have a really lousy system for paying - ASmom
[ In Reply To ..]
for it and making it available to everyone. No one is disputing that we have good health care. It is good enough care that everybody should be able to use it and not have to worry about losing their home or their life or the lives of their children because of our putrid payment system. Said it before and will say it again! Profit does not belong in health care!!
I agree with you there - Anony1
[ In Reply To ..]
It is the system for paying that is what needs to be fixed.

Everyone should have affordable health insurance. It should not cost the unbelievable amount it costs me. I can't afford it. Everyone should be able to afford it. If I could get the same rates as other states that would be excellent.

And, people should have the option of whether they want to have health insurance or not. If they want it that's great and it should be affordable and if they don't want it they should have that option too.

Every child should have access to health care as everyone else in the country should too. If they can't pay then there are other options to help reimburse the costs. But not force every single person in America to buy a bill of goods they possibly don't want.

Most of us believe in reform, just not this bill! - WHAT?

[ In Reply To ..]
This thing is a horrendous nightmare! I dont see how anyone with a brain can support it.

I am a conservative but I disagree with your post - to some extent - Anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Your message comes off bitter, and that is not a good thing. I hate to use the bitter word because its a word libs throw around when they can't think of anything else and it usually doesn't fit in context with their message, however, I will have to say your post does sound bitter.

Am I happy this passed. I have mixed feelings. I'm happy that more people will have access to insurance. You can't say access to health care because they already have access to health care. I'm happy that people will not be dropped from their insurance, and I'm happy that they say people with pre-existing conditions will be able to get health care (or so they say, nobody knows yet for sure whether they really will). Nobody knows yet how much it will cost them. It may be more than what they can afford. I'm not happy that my premium rates will definitely raise because I can't hardly afford what I have now and on top of my premiums rising my taxes are also going to go up to pay for this. I'm not happy about forcing every citizen in the country to pay for health insurance because first and foremost important is that it is unconstitutional. Second, not everyone in America is still going to pay for health insurance. The unemployed and illegals will not have to pay for health insurance (and others, certain groups) but they will get free health insurance. Medicare patients are going to suffer, and there are people who will be denied procedures and meds they need. More doctors are going to quit the profession, and there will be longer waits for routine procedures and stuff. The elderly are really going to be the ones who suffer and that really is too bad.

However, I don't like your post for the following reasons. There were not only conservatives on the board last night. Others were posting. One thing I'll give some of the liberals credit for and standing back and letting those who are going to be severely impacted by this disastrous bill they pass had a chance to vent their frustrations and disappointment. There was some name calling, but no more than what the liberals have been doing before the crapcare plan passed. But I thank the liberals for letting people vent their anger and frustration.

Your post just sounds bitter and that is not a good thing and doesn't help the conservatives at all. Now we have to figure out how to fix the mess they just signed. To use an old Obama campaign brainwashing term "hope". We will hope that come November once there is a new change of political parties in office they will be able to reverse the horrible mistake that was just passed, or rather just the unconstitutional portions of the bill. Everyone should have access to affordable insurance, not be dropped from their plans, and should have the choice of whether they want insurance or not. Hopefully the change in power will be able to make this a good bill. One that is not going to bankrupt the country within 4 years.

You will, no doubt, have noticed that the liberals on this board are largely unable and/or unwilling to actually discuss any substantial issues - or to defend Obama's dismal record - with any sort of competence.  Show them an Obama ad today, and they'll repeat it tomorrow.  But I would only ask you to consider this:  What else can they do, and how would you like to be in their shoes?
